NCLEX-RN REVIEW COURSE

Curriculum

The course curriculum includes comprehensive NCLEX-RN test review reflecting exam breakdown with special consideration for the distribution of exam content as indicated by the NCSBN (National Council of the State Boards of Nursing):

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical Nursing
  • Surgical Nursing
  • Maternal / Newborn Nursing
  • Pediatric Nursing with emphasis on Growth and Development
  • Psychiatric Nursing
  • Nutrition
  • Dosage Calculation
  • Leadership and Management
  • Delegation

Curriculum also includes a complete refresher of the full spectrum of nursing skills and academic disciplines in all areas of nursing profession. The goal of the class is to prepare nurses for NCLEX test and to get them ready for real life employment in any healthcare setting.
The course is designed to provide the total knowledge of the required NCLEX content material and the correct strategy and approach to answering the test questions for all areas the NCLEX exam. During classes nurses learn how to determine and prioritize the key aspects of any question. Although question and answer sessions are necessary part of the course, we do not waste time on constant monotonous question – answer drills or useless memorization of thousands of multiple choice NCLEX questions.
The curriculum also refreshes the academic knowledge but it does not replicate the nursing school syllabus. It deals with real-life situations, which prepares nurses for the exam and gives them invaluable experience for their future careers.

Teaching personnel

Teaching is one of the hardest things to do, teaching experienced people is even harder. It requires constant personal learning to stay on top of the latest developments. We set the highest standards for our teachers, and it shows in results. 80 to 85% of all our students are consistently passing NCLEX test on their first attempt.

NCLEX review book

The NCLEX review book has been specifically designed for our course. It offers a structured system for all areas of the test, as well as real life practical examples and information. The book is not a substitute for or a duplicate of the course; it is a classroom educational aid, and self study support.

Class schedule

The classes are conducted on weekends (primarily on Saturdays) from 10:15AM to 4:15PM. This schedule was planned with several objectives in mind: The large amount of information provided during each class, as well as homework, require time to process and absorb; Weekday classes are not productive because most people are working, and by the time they come to the class, they are tired and unfocused. Also, weekday schedule will be extremely inconvenient for people who are now driving from other cities to attend class.

APPLICATION FORMS PREPARATION

Correct and accurate preparation of the application forms is an important step on the way to RN licensure. Unfortunately, it can also be one of the most complicated and frustrating things.
RN licensing applications are complex multipart documents that are sometimes written in a peculiar bureaucratic jargon. They are also processed by bureaucrats who like to see “every i doted and every t crossed”. Sometimes the smallest innocent mistake, omission or typo can take weeks or moths of correspondence to resolve.
It is also very important to know how and when your nursing application is processed after it has been sent out, and what to do to make sure that it is processed timely and properly.

TRANSLATIONS

Correct and understandable translations are essential for any non English document. This is what the personnel at the board of nursing are using to determine your eligibility for licensure.
So, choosing the competent translator is critical, because just one mistake in translation can have severe implications for you.
Our expertise is in translating medical and personal documents from European languages (except Estonian, Finnish and Hungarian, sorry Eesti, Suomi and Magyarország).

A few words about “official translators” and “official translations”: In the United States there are no governmental regulations about who can be a translator. So, there are no “official translators”, just competent and incompetent ones.
“Official translation” means that it has been notarized and it has the name of the translator and full contact information of the company. However, do not be tricked into thinking that if the translation is notarized, then it is correct. Unlike in some other countries, Notary Public in the United States do not certify that the translation is correct. They only verify and confirm the identity of the translator.

RESUME WRITING SERVICES

A professional quality nursing resume is what will get you your dream job.

Here are some facts and myths about resumes

  • Fact: There are no absolute rules about the resumes. All “rules” are just suggestions; and like all suggestions, some are useful and some are not.
  • Myth: Resume must fit on one page.
Not true. If employers are interested in you, and your resume looks professional and contains relevant information about your qualifiactions, they will read your resume even if it is longer than one page.
  • Fact: Resume must be clear, easy to read, and most importantly, relevant. Employers are interested in your work experience, professional licenses and certificates, education and qualifications. Employers are not interested in the fact that you enjoy cooking and romantic walks on the beach, that your hobby is collecting teddy bears, and that your favorite color is pink.
  • Myth: I can not show on my resume that I have a degree in another field, because then I will be “overqualified” for a nursing position.
Not true. A degree in another field can not hurt your chances; to the contrary, it may open a way for promotion and career advancement.
  • Fact: Do not include English into the language skills on your resume.
Official language of the United States is English; your resume is written in English; so if you list English in the language skills you will only call attention to the following: a) you really don’t understand English; b) you don’t know where you are; c) you don’t pay attention to details.
  • Myth: Nurse license number** should not be included in the resume.
Not true. Every employer will verify your nursing license. All nursing licenses are public information and can be verified through the website of the Nursing Board. This verification may be done by last name or license number, but verification by license number is much more convenient. So, if you don’t include your license number, you will only give your potential employer an annoying task of sorting through several people with the same last name as yours.
**Exception: If you chose to place your resume on the job search websites, it is a good idea to remove all personal information about yourself. You should even create a separate e-mail account just for this purpose.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONSULTATIONS AND JOB SEARCH REFERRALS

There are many things that can go wrong at the job interview, and it is good to be prepared. Knowing how to “dress for success”, how to correctly answer some typical questions, understanding what papers you should and should not sign; these are all very important. And we can prepare you for this challenge.

Career Improvement Consulting is working with several prescreened job placement agents. A good placement agent must be honest, effective, and most importantly have job offers. Also, a real placement agent will never charge nurses for the services.
